Families in June
Wafaa was living with her family in Harasta, a suburb of Damascus. Wafaa's husband left the family home 11 years ago and there has been no news from him since.
For six years Wafaa has been living in Jaramanah with her son aged 23 who is in his third year of law at the university. She works in a dressmaking workshop but her monthly wage barely covers the rent of the small home she shares with her son. His leg was injured during the hostilities and he is still unable to walk properly as a result of his injury.
Like Wafaa, Hanaa was living with her family in Harasta. Her husband died 10 years ago at the age of 50. Hanaa no longer works and has a son and a daughter who are attending the university, one studying pharmacy and the other one medicine.
During the hostilities they moved to Jaramanah where they are now renting an apartment. Hanaa receives a pension which only covers a quarter of the family's essential living expenses.
As a result of your donations in June amounting to a total of CHF2,000, aid has been given to the families of Hanaa and Wafaa, each of them receiving the equivalent of CHF1,000.
