Madeline is the oldest child in a family of six people. With her father, mother and three brothers, she was living at Qaboun, a suburb to the north east of Damas which was controlled by the Rebels. It was near Qaboun in August 2013 that there was a bio-chemical weapons attack and several hundred civilians were killed.
A few months ago, Madeline and her family had to flee Qaboun after their house was destroyed in bombing attacks by the Army. They then moved to another suburb of Damas, Qudsaya, where they rented a small room in a basement with no windows.
Madeline's father suffers from a heart problem and her mother is a diabetic. Madeline herself was hit by a mini-bus several months ago which resulted in a fractured shoulder and leg and three operations.
Two months ago, one of Madeline's brothers was arrested by the Regime. No-one knows where he is and all her family can do is pray fervently each day for his release.
